Breast Enhancement Surgery
Thomas Lois, MD Atlanta Ga Plastic Surgeon
Ideally breasts are firm and full in shape. They should be balanced in size in relation to each other as well as in relation to the rest of your body shape. Your nipple should rest half way between the tops of your shoulders and the crease near your elbows. But in reality, no one is perfect. Over your lifetime, the size and shape of your breasts change. Contributing factors that over time cause breasts to decrease in volume, droop or sag include changes in skin elasticity, pregnancy, weight-loss, and the inevitable effects of gravity.
Many women may even have breasts that are not of equal size or shape nor is the size and shape of the nipple balanced in relation to the breast and seek breast revision. Other women are disatisifed with the results of previous breast surgert and seek breast revision surgery. Whatever your concern, there is a breast enhancement procedure that is right for you.
Dr. Lois enhances the appearance of the breast through breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and corrective breast surgery.
Your Breast Surgery Consultation
The breast surgery consultation is necessary for Dr. Lois to review your medical history and discuss your options with you. At the time of your consultation, Dr. Lois will take measurements from the notch of your collarbone down to your nipple (on each side), across and from your areola to the fold in your breast. Based on these measurements, he will determine which procedure(s) will benefit you most.
You will also need to bring information regarding your medical history for Dr. Lois’ review such as 1) information regarding all previous surgical procedures, 2) vitamins and herbal supplements you’re taking, 3) mammogram results, 4) your medical history including any familial history of breast cancer, and 5) a list of previous problems such as lumps, nipple discharge or pain. The consultation fee is $65. If you proceed with surgery, the consultation fee will be applied to the cost of surgery.

AMERICAN WOMEN SCORE VICTORY WITH APPROVAL OF SILICONE GEL FILLED BREAST IMPLANTS
ATLANTA - GA - November 20, 2006- The Food and Drug Administration lifted a 14 year ban on the use of silicone gel breast implants in the United States on November 17, 2006 after a rigorous scientific review concluded that these devices are safe and effective.
“Prior to November 17 if a woman in the United States chose to have breast augmentation her only option was to have a saline filled implant – now American women and their plastic surgeons can choose either saline filled or silicone gel filled implants.” states Dr Thomas Lois , a board certified plastic surgeon practicing in East Atlanta (Snellville) . “Saline implants are great devices but it was frustrating not to be able to use silicone gel implants in certain patients who would clearly benefit from them. Science had conclusively shown that these devices were safe but politics, emotion and powerful special interest groups kept them off the market until now – this is a great victory for women in America. American women can now make informed choices about their health care with regard to implants – a choice that women in 60 countries all over the world have long had,” stated Lois .
Breast implants are the most studied medical devices in history. In making their decision the FDA studies an extensive amount of data from the medical literature as well as a core study of women studied over the last 4 years. Dr Schultz of the FDA states “the extensive body of scientific evidence provides reasonable assurance of the benefits and risks of these devices. This information is available in the product labeling and will enable women and their physicians to make informed decisions.”
“Scientific evidence has shown that silicone implants are safe but it is vital for the patient to have a good understanding of the risks and benefits of the different implants now available. This can only be done through careful consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon prior to surgery. The FDA approved silicone implants with several important conditions. There will be a large post approval study that will look at a large number of women who get silicone implants. The core study will continue through 10 years. A focus group study of the patient labeling, continued laboratory studies, and tracking of each implant placed are required but the FDA. These studies should assure the public and plastic surgeons of the safety and effectiveness of silicone implants.”
